Jaimie Johnson: Born Rich, Children Of the Insanely Wealthy

In the early 2000s, Jamie Johnson, an heir of the Johnson & Johnson fortune, decided to make a documentary about the experiences of children of the insanely wealthy. The result, Born Rich, premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and is a fascinating (and infuriating) look at the lives of kids that have more money than many countries. This is the film that was referenced in John Oliver’s incredible takedown of Donald Trumpthe other night when he played a clip of an interview with Ivanka Trump. (In fairness, Ivanka was one of the more normal kids profiled.)
If you’re unsure if you want to watch it, here’s a quote from European textile heir Cody Franchetti that shows you the type of people with whom you’re dealing in this thing: “I’m reading a book and I’m thinking about pussy, but I find when I get the pussy, I’m thinking about the book.”
Hate when that happens.
Some of the film’s subjects claimed to have been tricked into being interviewed, including one that sued to have the film blocked, which was ultimately dismissed. Thus, we get to watch it.
Enjoy!
If you want to know more about these lucky bastards, The Daily Mailfollowed up on the film’s subjects for the film’s tenth anniversary in 2013.
